Smith, Robert

SMITH, Robert (Bob) Prescott July 14, 1940 - April 9, 2009 We are deeply saddened to announce the peaceful passing of Bob Smith, age 68 years old, at his home in Edmonton, Alberta, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He will always be loved and remembered by his wife Bonnie (Webb), daughters Nancy (Brett McConkey) of Calgary, Alberta, Marlene (Luis Lanza-Luna) of Vancouver, British Columbia, grandsons, Jaden, Robert, Garrett, Ethan, Connor, Ashton Prescott and walking companion Raven of Calgary, Alberta, his sister Norma (Bill Robinson) of Kitchener, Ontario, brothers Gary of Lennoxville, Quebec and Larry (Lisette Parenteau) of Rock Forest, Quebec, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Wendell and Nora Webb (Lapenna) of Fryeburg, Maine as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Having served in the Navy, Bob was a 45 year member of the Army, Navy, Air Force Veterans Unit 318, as well as a 46 year member of the Royal Canadian Legion. A "Time of Remembering" will be held at his home on Saturday May 2, 2009 between the hours of 2:00 and 6:00 p.m. Cremation has taken place and Inurnment will be in the family plot in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. If desired donations may be made to the Cross Cancer Institute, Mesothelioma research Program, 11560 University Avenue Edmonton Alberta T6G 1Z2.

A very good friend of mind, Pete Gallant passed away on January 29th, 2010. Pete also served as a Comm Rsch for 8 years with a few tours in Alert. Below is is obituaries for those of you who knew Pete. I have a picture but don't know how to add it.

GALLANT, Peter - Suddenly on January 29th, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. Husband extraordinaire of Diane Gallant, amazingly awesome rockin' father of Matt and Jacquie. Beloved son of Lena Gallant (the late Gilbert), and brother of Emma (Eudore), Janet (David), Linda (Ken) and Rick. Dear son-in-law of Betty Symington (the late Stan), and brother-in-law of Kathe, David (Sue). He will be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and neighbours. He will always be remembered by many friends, including Bonnie and Brian Collie, the Owen Sound gang, Dwayne and Carm Coon, Marlean Fuller, Pam and Pete Malliett, Larry Breen and all his NENA friends, his sailing and canoeing buddies, his beloved fellow musicians to whom he was know as “Lemon Lime“ and his many colleagues at NRPS. In his earlier days Pete worked for the Ministry of Natural Resources at Bruce National Park near Tobermory, a place that holds a piece of his heart. Pete served eight years in the Canadian Armed Forces as a Communications Specialist and was one of the “Chosen Frozen“ enduring many tours of the Arctic. He was also a 911 operator with Toronto Police Service and Niagara Regional Police Service for a total of 23 years. He was the Communications Training Coordinator for NRPS, president of NENA and a teacher at Ontario College of Health and Technology. He loved his friends, his family, his music, his career and his late dog Louie. The family will receive friends at MORSE & SON FUNERAL HOME, 5917 Main Street, Thursday from 2- 4 and 6-9 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held Friday morning at 11 o'clock at St. Patrick's Church, 4673 Victoria Avenue. In memory of Pete, donations to Sick Kids Hospital, Friends of Fathom Five Park (Tobermory) or the Niagara Regional Police Benevolent Fund would be appreciated by the family.
